Clint Sintim Profile
The New York Giants have signed second-round picks OLB Clint Sintim
and OT William Beatty, the team announced Thursday. Complete terms
weren't immediately available, but a source said both players signed four-year
deals.
Sintim was selected from the University of Virginia with the 45th overall pick,
which was obtained from the New Orleans Saints in the Jeremy Shockey
trade. Beatty, a 6-6, 307-pounder from the University of Connecticut, was the
60th overall selection.
Sintim, 6-2 and 256 pounds, played in 49 games with 48 starts for the Cavaliers.
His career totals included 245 tackles (130 solo) with 27.0 sacks for minus-176
yards, 39.0 stops for losses totaling 206 yards, 10 quarterback pressures, five
forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. His 27.0 sacks tied Darryl
Blackstock (2002-04) for second on the school’s career list. Those 27.0
sacks were the most by any active linebacker in the NCAA at the conclusion of
the 2008 campaign.
In 2008, Sintim was a team captain and was named honorable mention All-America
by Pro Football Weekly. He started all 12 games at strongside linebacker and
ranked third on the team with 70 tackles (38 solo) and registered a career-high
11.0 sacks for minus-86 yards, the fifth-best in school history. He totaled 13
stops for losses totaling 90 yards, forced a fumble and recovered two others.
Sintim is expected to compete for the starting strongside linebacker job against
veteran Danny Clark.
Beatty played in 39 games with 35 starts at Connecticut. He was credited with
238 knockdowns/key blocks, including 30 blocks that led to touchdowns. In his
final two seasons as a full-time starter, he delivered 173 knockdowns, 23
touchdown-resulting blocks and 16 blocks downfield.
Last year, Beatty started all 13 games at left tackle and earned All-Big East
Conference first-team honors from the league’s media and coaches and was named
All-America honorable mention. He shared the team’s Joseph M. Giannelli Unsung
Hero Award with teammate S Dahna Deleston. Beatty was part of an
offensive line that helped RB Donald Brown lead the nation in rushing.
The Huskies led the Big East and ranked 13th among major colleges with an
average of 216.48 rushing yards per game. Beatty registered 88 key blocks/
knockdowns, including 13 touchdown-resulting blocks.
Beatty is expected to back up starting LT David Diehl this season, but
it's possible in future years that Diehl moves inside to guard with Beatty
taking over at left tackle.
To make room on the roster, the Giants waived WR Micah Rucker and LB
Kelvin Smith.
Rucker was signed to the Giants’ practice squad last Dec. 12 and to the roster
on Jan. 12 of this year. Smith joined the Giants on May 9.
