"I told the players in the locker room when the game was over with that I don't know if I've ever been prouder of a group of kids in the way that they fought to get themselves back into a ball game. We didn't play very well in the first half. We started off and had a little tiny bit of success. But we made so many mistakes in the kicking game that we really put ourselves in a hole. I told the kids that one thing that defines you is your character, your guts, your ability to compete, to never surrender.
"We didn't play this for moral victories. We came here to play this game to win the game. I'm proud of the way that everybody played in the second half because they did what we asked them to do at halftime, [which] was to come out and execute better, keep competing, try to win one game at a time, one possession at a time and give themselves a chance to get back into the game. I thought our team did that. LSU is a good football team; they've got a lot of talented players and I'm sure they're going to have a lot of success before the season is over with."
On not having 13 players:
"Our depth was unbelievably put to the test. We were shorthanded in just a significant number of phases – defensively, nickel packages. All of the depth got eaten up on special teams. Guys were having to play way more plays than they needed to play. I think it's a testimony to their courage to keep fighting and keep playing."
On the special teams woes:
"All of the guys that were starting on defense originally used to be on all of our special teams... I know that we probably burned at least eight red-shirts tonight that we never had any intention to probably two weeks ago... It depleted our football team."
On the late rally:
"We came back in the 2nd half just believing that we could come back. We told each other that we could do this and it started to go slowly. We were depleted as is. Some guys went down in the game. We had other guys that never played collegiately before." I'm proud of my team."
On the locker room atmosphere after the game:
"The mood in the locker room was a little disappointing, a little frustrated. If we did some things differently, the outcome would have been better."
On looking ahead:
"LSU is a great team but we've got to move on from the game. It was our first game of the season. We still want to be in the ACC Championships. We need to re-focus on that."
On the UNC comeback:
"We had guys that never quit. We were down 30-10 and we came back and had a chance to win at the end."
On the final play:
"If I make that play, we win the game. I'm such a competitive person and I feel I could have won it for us, and I didn't."
Did you come out of the game at all?
"Yes, I came out. I know it didn't look like it, but I got like one or two plays off. Other than that, though, I played pretty much the whole game."
On the value of this game:
"This was a great game for us to build on. I feel like this is going to set the tone for us for the rest of the season. We did a great job, but we just came up short."
On the fans:
"I was proud of our fans sticking with us tonight and believing in us. Most of them stayed with us to the very end."
On the comeback:
"We made a lot of mistakes but we fought through them. I feel like we are a team that fights hard through a lot of adversity. I feel like we are the best team in the ACC."
