UNC-Duke: Game Notes

GREENSBORO – North Carolina’s effort to qualify for the NCAA tournament likely ended on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 50th Annual Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, as the Tar Heels were drilled by rival Duke, 75-63 at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Here is a look at UNC’s 15th loss in 32 games.

***With the loss, Carolina’s all-time record versus Duke dropped to 123-92.

***Carolina has won just two of the last 14 meetings between the schools.

***UNC is now 8-11 in ACC tournament play against Duke.

***UNC has now lost four straight ACC tournament games to the Blue Devils.

***The last time UNC lost in the semifinals of the ACC tournament was in 1984. UNC fell to Duke that day as well.

***This was the first time since 1984 that UNC and Duke have met in the ACC semifinals.

The loss ended Carolina’s 10-game winning streak at the Greensboro Coliseum.

***UNC is now 100-26 all-time at the Greensboro Coliseum.

***The Tar Heels are now 31-11 at the Greensboro Coliseum in ACC tournament play.

***UNC started four freshmen and a sophomore while Duke started two freshmen, a sophomore, a junior, and a senior.

***Sean May played 10 minutes and scored four points, had three rebounds, two blocked shots and an assist.

***May scored four quick points upon entering the game.

***Duke didn’t hit a 3-pointer in the second half yet still shot 53.3% (8-15) for the game.

***Duke has advanced to the ACC title game for the sixth consecutive season.

***UNC’s ACC tournament titles: 1957, 1961, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1972, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1989, 1991, 1994, 1997, 1998.
