GREENSBORO – So much for having no size, a major disadvantage in experience, and for a 40-point loss three weeks ago.

North Carolina avenged a series of brutal beatings by Maryland and knocked off the second-seeded Terrapins, 84-72, before a loud crowd of 23,745 in the quarterfinals of the 50th Annual Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Here is a look at UNC's 17th victory in 31 games.

***With the win, Carolina improved to 108-52 all-time against the Terrapins.

***UNC ended a four-game losing streak to the Terps in which the average margin of victory was 25.

**UNC is now 12-3 against the Terps in the ACC tournament. The last time Maryland beat the Heels in the ACC tourney was in 1986.

***UNC has now played in 108 ACC tournament games. Duke is second in the league with 105.

***The win improves Carolina's record in Greensboro to 100-24.

***UNC is 31-10 all-time in ACC tourney games played in Greensboro.

***This was the lowest seed ever for a UNC team that won a game in the ACC tournament. The previous low was a fifth seed in 1964 when Carolina beat South Carolina.

***UNC now has eight consecutive wins against Maryland in ACC tourney play.

***Melvin Scott entered tonight's game averaging 17.4 minutes per game and doubled it with 35.

***The 52-point turnaround was the largest ever for UNC in a single season. Biggest turnaround in one season for UNC in terms of losing a game 8-62 at Wake, won by 18 at home 44-point swing in 93

***The Heels have won eight tournament titles in Greensboro: 1967, 1972, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1982, 1997 and 1998.

***The Tar Heels have won 15 ACC tournament titles.

***The Heels have played in 23 of the 49 title games.

***Carolina has an all-time record of 74-33 at the ACC tournament.

***The Tar Heels have been bounced from the ACC tournament in three of the last four seasons.

***UNC has now gone five seasons without winning the conference tournament title.
