According to a UNC official, Butch Davis, who is currently vacationing out of the country, is aware of the situation, but hasn’t had an opportunity to speak with McAdoo.
UNC won’t have any further comment until that conversation takes place, however the school official did confirm that the weapon in question was a BB gun. McAdoo has a court date scheduled for Aug. 23.
North Carolina General Statute, GS-14-269.2, states: “It shall be a misdemeanor for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, any BB gun, air rifle, air pistol, bowie knife, dirk, dagger, slungshot, leaded cane, switchblade knife, blackjack, metallic knuckles, razors and razor blades (except solely for shaving purposes), and any sharp-pointed or edged instrument except instructional supplies, unaltered nail files and clips, and tools used solely for preparation of food, instruction, and maintenance on educational property.”
During the summer heading into his senior year of high school at Chapel Hill (N.C.) High, McAdoo was arrested on a felony charge of possessing a narcotic with intent to sell. He was later granted deferred prosecution on that charge.
McAdoo, a 6-3, 295-pound defensive tackle, red-shirted last season, but is expected to be a part of the line rotation this fall. He was listed on the school's two-deep spring depth chart as the backup at right defensive tackle.
