"We think this is a great addition to our team," said Inside Carolina president Buck Sanders. "Even though we were satisfied with our unparalleled coverage of UNC basketball recruiting, we owe it to our subscribers to always aim to improve the product that they pay for. I've known Rob, and followed his work, for more than a decade and there's no doubt he will improve our coverage."
Harrington will complement Inside Carolina's existing basketball recruiting coverage, which is led by Evan Daniels, by authoring tournament coverage and scouting reports, while also providing analysis and insider scoop on the premium forum and answering subscriber's questions.
His qualifications speak for themselves, as his full time gig is as the editor of the national basketball recruiting web site PrepStars.com and the print magazine Recruiter's Handbook. He's also a member of the Naismith committee honoring the nation's best high school player.
"I've always admired Inside Carolina for its attention to detail and journalistic professionalism, and observing the IC staff in the field over the years has made it obvious to me why it's one of the most successful team sites on the internet," Harrington said. "I'm excited to work toward enhancing the site even more."
Harrington's chief expertise is national recruiting, but he also brings a local element and UNC expertise, as a Chapel Hill resident and a regular attendee at the Dean E. Smith Center, covering Tar Heel basketball games for Independent Weekly.
"I've known Rob personally for quite awhile and, as a peer, have appreciated his work with Prep Stars and the Recruiter's Handbook," said Inside Carolina editor Ben Sherman. "He'll be able to offer terrific basketball recruiting information and insight for our readers, and his extensive knowledge of the Tar Heel team and program is an added bonus. This is an ideal fit for Inside Carolina."
