CHAPEL HILL, NC--University of North Carolina freshman forward/center Sean May received a positive medical update from UNC Director of Sports Medicine Dr. Tim Taft on Friday, although Taft said May's return to action is still uncertain.

"Sean's foot is showing progressive healing at the fracture site, but it is premature for him to return to practice or games at this time," says Taft. "We will increase the level of his conditioning program, allowing him to participate in limited drills and jogging. He still won't be allowed to participate in any contact drills or jumping.

"He is progressing as we expected and will be reassessed next week."

May broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot early in the second half of the Dec. 27 game against Iona in Madison Square Garden. The Bloomington, Ind., native had surgery on Dec. 30. Doctors placed a stainless steel screw in his foot and injected bone marrow from his hip to enhance the healing process. He originally suffered a stress reaction in his left foot when he stepped on a teammate's foot in practice in the second week of December.

May was averaging 12.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
