Opening statement:
“What we have to do is get to a point where the way we played the first ten or twelve minutes of the second half and try to create that all the time. I thought we did some nice things at the start of the second half. But the first possession of the second half, we called a defense and then we didn’t run it. It really shows my talks over there in the huddle are doing a lot of good. But then we got some good things going. We got people involved. We got the basketball inside a little better.

"The first half, we were 10-20 in the lane and we’ve got to have a better percentage than that when we have a size advantage. But again, the first ten or twelve minutes, I thought we did some good things. Other than that, there was some movie — 'Ghost' — where everybody kept saying 'ditto.' I thought I’d walk in here and say about my press conference Monday night, “ditto.”

“What did we talk about before the season — we were concerned about our experience and lack of depth on the perimeter. And then we’ve got Marcus and Justin not playing. So that adds a bit to it. David was in there as a two man on one point.

“We’ve got to get better, guys. We’re frustrated, the kids are frustrated. I told them, I’m the most negative I’ve ever been with any team. But we’ve taught so many things, said the same things over and over. But you know, they’re great kids, and we’re going to be all right. We’re going to have a meeting tomorrow after our Children’s Holiday Clinic. We’ve got no restrictions. So we’re going to be there from 2 ‘o’clock until midnight. Then we’ll hold hands and sing 'Kumbaya' and we’ll ring in the New Year.”

On what the team needs to do to improve:
“We’re going to meet tomorrow, and I’m going to say, ‘What can you do.’ I’m tired of saying to the point guards to get back in defensive balance. We gave up four layups tonight. I’m tired of just saying it’s not okay to just get a shot up. We had three tips at it, and one of our players gets it, and he shoots it over seventeen guys. It’s not okay to just get a shot up. Deon, our senior, is in there with fourteen guys around him, seventeen referees, and all of them smelly. He’s in there still trying to shoot the ball. Pass it out to an open teammate. Those kinds of things, some way, some how, they’ve got to figure it out.”

On his sore knee:
“It’ll be alright. It’s been a long three days, playing the game on Monday, practicing twice on Tuesday, and then playing tonight. But by the time we play Charleston it’ll be alright.”

On Coach Williams’ continued frustration with the team’s play:
“I think the first 28 minutes we played pretty solid basketball. We played good basketball as a team. We did some good things, but then it just seemed like we collapsed. We started making turnovers, not finishing plays, things like that. So we’ve got to put together a full 40 minutes.”

On the need for more accountability among players:
“Everyone needs to be accountable for their own actions and do their jobs on the defensive end. I think that’s where Coach gets that from. When we don’t do things on the defensive end, that’s when it really hurts us. But if everyone is accountable for their own actions, I think it will take care of everything.”

JOHN HENSON

On Albany’s strong finish:
“That’s the thing that killed me. They went on like a 15-0 run or something. We were going so good, and then we just had a kind of mental lapse. It put a damper on the game. We got the win, but that just killed our morale after the game.”

On Carolina’s struggles to close the game:
“The last eight minutes showed our inexperience. We didn’t know how to handle things. We were up thirty-something points, and we didn’t know how to handle the last eight minutes as a team. That’s something we’ve got to learn as a team, because in the ACC, we might only have a ten point lead and we’ve got to hold that the whole game. We’ve just got to focus more, concentrate.”

On his own performance:
“I’m trying to work on the confidence factor. Tonight, it was getting those steals and kind of getting a feel for the game. That boosts my confidence. I feel like tonight was a step in the right direction.”

DEXTER STRICKLAND

On thinking his way through the game:
“I feel I made the right decisions. I think I passed up some shots I could have taken, that I would have felt comfortable in taking but didn’t take. But it will all come along. I just need to be more focused out there.”

On preparing for ACC play:
“We’ve just got to focus more, play more together. Tonight we made a lot of mental mistakes on defense and offense, not being too good on decision-making. Now the competition is going to get better. We’ve got to step it up.”

On his New Year’s resolution for the team:
“Just better decision-making.”
