The University of Maryland women's basketball team used a 43-19 rebound margin to defeat American University 75-64

After suffering an upset defeat at the hands of Towson University, the Maryland Terrapins women's basketball team got back on track today against American University.

Maryland (9-2) has struggled a bit in their out-of-conference schedule, as the young Terps have shown a lot of inconsistency. Hopefully this win will be what they need to get on a roll entering conference play.

Maryland was able to use their size and strength to run the undersized Eagles right out of their own gym. The Terps outrebounded them 43-19, with 15 of those 43 being offensive boards. This effort, coupled with a 51% shooting percentage, lead the Terrapins to a 75-64 win over American.

Leading the way for Maryland were Lynetta Kizer and Tianna Hawkins, who both totatled double-doubles for the Terps. Kizer finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Hawkins added 20 points and 12 rebounds. Diandra Tchatchouang and Kim Rogers were also in double figures, with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Dara Taylor led the team with 11 assists.

For the Eagles, Michelle Kirk led the team with 18, while Lisa Strack and Liz Leer added 14 and 11 points, respectively. Leer led the team with five rebounds, and Raven Harris led the team in assists with five.

After playing two straight on the road, Maryland now heads back to the comfortable confines of the Comcast Center for the annual Terrapin Classic. There they will face off with Stony Brook at 6:00 on Sunday, December 27.
