Here is a look at some notes from UNC’s 12th win in 22 games, and third Atlantic Coast Conference victory in nine contests.
***With the victory, Carolina now leads the all-time series with the Seminoles 30-7. UNC is now 20-6 against FSU since the ’Noles joined the ACC in 1991.
***Carolina has now won 11 of the last 13 meetings with FSU.
***The Tar Heels won the first meeting this season with the Seminoles, 69-48, in Tallahassee.
***Carolina held FSU to just one basket out of its offense until Todd Galloway hit a 3-pointer 6:34 into the game.
***The Heels limited FSU’s leading scorer Tim Pickett (18 ppg) to zero field goals through the Seminoles’ offense in the first half. Pickett, however, did manage three buckets – all after steals.
***Carolina’s propensity for droughts continued, as the Heels scored just two field goals in the last 10:03 of the first half. FSU went on runs of 10-0 and 16-3 in the first half tog et back into the game.
***In his last four games, Jawad Williams has scored 24, 22, 19, and 20 points for an average of 21.2 per game.
***Williams had just two 20-point games in his first 45 as a Tar Heel, but now has three in his last four games after scoring 20 points against the Seminoles.
***David Noel’s 11 and four rebounds gives him an average of 14.6 points and 6.3 rebounds in the three two games, all starts by the Durham freshman.
***Melvin Scott’s last eight games (6-37 in last five, 3-24 from 3-point range)
***After scoring in double figures in just three of UNC’s first nine games, Raymond Felton at least 10 points in his last 12 games before ending that streak with eight today.
***Jackie Manuel had a terrific day scoring 12 points, handing out four assists, blocking four shots and getting one steal.
***Carolina’s 18 field goals matched its season low (Iona). And the 18 field goals were the fewest in a UNC win since Dec. 1998 in a 77-72 win over Louisville. Carolina was 18-43 that night in Chapel Hill.
***UNC’s victory is its 500th in ACC play. Next in line heading into today's games: Duke (444), Maryland (353), N.C. State (350), Wake Forest (333), Virginia (285), Clemson (232), Georgia Tech* (154), and FSU^ (72). South Carolina won 101 league games from 1953-54 through 1970-71. *Tech began playing in the 1979-80 season. ^FSU began playing in the 1991-92 campaign.
