The Smith Center in Chapel Hill will be the site of a historic basketball game today when North Carolina hits the playing floor for the second time this season.
N.C. Central, UNC's neighbor in Durham, will be the opponent in the Coaches Vs. Cancer Tournament second round at 9 p.m. NCCU, a historically black college, has never played North Carolina in basketball, despite the schools' proximity.

During its first two seasons playing at the NCAA's Division I level, N.C. Central's basketball team traveled more than 47,000 miles across 22 states.
So the fact that the Eagles begin their third season of Division I competition tonight with a mere 10-mile bus ride to Chapel Hill would seem like a respite - except that they happen to be facing defending national champion North Carolina on national television in the 2K Sports Classic (9 p.m., ESPNU).

Opening night was a success, but not a smash for North Carolina’s men’s basketball team.
The Tar Heels downed visiting Florida International 88-72, but had some bumps along the way, turning the ball over 26 times and having unfocused stretches that allowed the Golden Panthers to avoid a true blowout.
The sixth-ranked Tar Heels will get another shot at hitting all their marks when they play host to North Carolina Central tonight in the second game of the 2K Sports Classic. It’s the season opener for the Eagles.
