Perhaps the toughest week-long stretch in athletics for T.J. Yates looked a lot tougher when the North Carolina quarterback threw a fourth-quarter interception that set up Virginia Tech’s go-ahead touchdown Thursday night. That’s precisely when Yates showed how tough he is.
Tar Heels QB comes full circle
The Burlington Times-News

Tar Heels safety Deunta Williams said he can't remember having such a fun bus ride home - and for good reason. UNC's 20-17 upset of then-No. 14 Virginia Tech on Thursday put Carolina back in the bowl hunt. With home games against Duke and Miami, and road games at Boston College and N.C. State, the Tar Heels must win two of their last four to become bowl eligible. "Our kids gained confidence," coach Butch Davis said.

North Carolina's stunning win over Virginia Tech on Thursday not only broke a five-game losing streak to the Hokies, it also breathed new life into the Tar Heels' season. Tar Heels hope first ACC win starts trend
The Durham Herald-Sun

North Carolina has a lot of football left to play, but the Tar Heels may well have drawn the blue print for how one saves a football season. Start with Thursday night's 20-17 come-from-behind victory against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
Carolina getting it done
The Chapel Hill News

The Devils (5-3, 3-1) sit in second place in the ACC's Coastal Division behind Georgia Tech (8-1, 5-1). They have four games to play, with the next in Chapel Hill against rival North Carolina (5-3, 1-3). The Tar Heels, who are looking to secure their own bowl eligibility, have not lost to the Devils since 2003. Duke players are viewing the Tar Heels as another impediment to a winning season, something they can see just over the horizon.
