Through the first six weeks of the season, North Carolina's defense is ranked fifth in the nation and is giving up just 237.67 yards per game. The only teams ahead of UNC's defense are top-ranked Florida, No. 2 Alabama, unranked Arizona State and No. 3 Texas.
Tar Heels continue to work on their 'D'

North Carolina's bye week couldn't have come at a better time. The Tar Heels are halfway through their season and enter their off week sitting at a 4-2 overall, thanks to a 42-12 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday. But while UNC boasts an winning record overall, it sits at the bottom of the conference with a 0-2 mark against ACC opponents.

There are two guys who must have big second halves on offense if UNC is going to reach the postseason. Junior receiver Greg Little is an athlete who can make plays, if he has the ball in his hands.

NCAA documents released Wednesday as the result of a news media lawsuit explain the thinking behind a proposal to strip Florida State coaches and athletes of victories for academic cheating -- even those not implicated. Football coach Bobby Bowden is among those who stand to lose wins -- 14 in his case. That would further diminish his already dwindling chances of overtaking Penn State's Joe Paterno, who leads Bowden by four victories as major college football's winningest coach.
