Hall to announce Friday

Vince Hall

Vince Hall is ready to make his decision. But fans of both North Carolina and Virginia Tech will have to wait until high noon on Friday.

Inside Carolina caught up with Western Branch coach Lew Johnston in his office Thursday morning and discussed Vince Hall's imminent decision.

"He is going to call both coaches and tell them the good or bad news," said Johnston of Hall's announcement.

Hall has put off his decision and has enjoyed the recruiting process and official visits, but Johnston finally let him know it's time to choose the Hokies or the Tar Heels.

"I went over to his house last night and visited with his parents. I told him we had to get this monkey off his back; so we pinned down a time here."

Originally, Hall was going to hold a press conference but decided it might not be the best idea, according to Johnston.

"He wanted to do something ala Michael Vick, but he got cold feet," Johnston said. "We are not going to call it a press conference so he won't be too nervous."

Johnston has enjoyed watching Hall go through the recruiting process, but said recently it has been hard on Hall and his family.

"His mom said it well last night. She said it was fun and it was nice because the date to decide was way off in the future. Now, it has hit in the last two weeks and his demeanor has changed in the last ten days as the pressure mounted."

Hall, a 6-1, 240 pound senior linebacker, took his official visit to UNC on Jan 10. He visited Virginia Tech in November, and also had scholarship offers from Tennessee, Penn State and South Carolina.

Hall would not be the first athlete from Western Branch to play football at UNC. It's also the alma mater of Dre Bly, a former UNC all-american and current St. Louis Rams cornerback.

UNC assistant Ken Browning has been instrumental in landing recruits in the tidewater Virginia area, and Hall would add to an already talented class of linebackers in this year's recruiting class. UNC has received verbal commitments from Fred Sparkman (Tenn.), Kory Gedin (D.C.), Joe Kedra (N.J.) and Larry Edwards (Fla.).

Check back in tomorrow as Inside Carolina will have quotes from both Johnston and Hall regarding his decision.
