ARLINGTON, Va. --- Despite playing in one of the toughest conferences in the nation, the Washington Catholic, team captain and North Carolina verbal commitment Nick Appel is confident that Bishop O'Connell will compete for the conference title this season.

"We have one of the strongest teams we've had since I've been here," Appel said. "As long as we put talent, speed, and power together, we'll be alright." Last fall, O'Connell finished fourth in the conference, which includes Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha and Olney (Md.) Good Counsel, with a 3-4 record.
