Opening remarks:
“Obviously, it’s a very disappointing loss, but we didn’t play well enough to win the game. You’ve got to give Maryland a great deal of credit – they did some things tonight that are certainly conducive to winning tough football games. They were able to run the football, they did a great job on third-down conversions and we didn’t take advantage of some great field position.

"We had opportunities inside the 20-, 25-yard line where we had to settle for field goals and by not converting [those] to touchdowns, it’s going to certainly come back to haunt you. You miss a field goal that could have been critical, it’s unlike some of the stuff that we’ve done, but we didn’t play well enough to win the game.”

On electing to punt whether than to try to kick a field goal from Maryland’s 33-yard line in the fourth quarter:
“Well, the kicker wasn’t kicking 54 yards in pregame with these heavy, wet balls and the air and stuff, so it was just a little bit out of his range.”

On losing 40 seconds on the final review at the UNC goal line:
“That’s what I was arguing about to begin with. Obviously, I was going to challenge the call because we didn’t think that he caught it, and then we were arguing that there should have been 25 seconds put back on the clock, and I think they only put eight back. It is what it is.”

On the poor weather:
“The weather conditions didn’t help us at all, it negated a little bit of our passing and a little bit of our speed that we thought maybe would be an advantage, but by no stretch of the imagination can you take anything away from Maryland. They played well and they deserved to win the game.”

On Maryland using some running plays that UNC had not seen before:
“Yes, they did. They did a few things, but that’s our coaches’ job, for us to try to put those fires out. To try to show them on the sidelines, draw it up and try to get our kids to understand what the new blocking schemes were going to be like. You’ve got to be able to adjust. You cannot predict with certainly that every time a team shows up that they’re going to run exactly everything that you’ve been seeing. They had a few plays that we never really ever got a handle on.”

CAM SEXTON

On the offensive struggles:
“I don’t know. We just had some opportunities and we didn’t capitalize on them. That’s about the end of that story. We were there, but we just couldn’t quite get it.”

On the poor third-down conversion percentage:
“We’ve been real successful on third downs this year, and today we weren’t. They’re a good football team. They played us well. They did a good job defending us. That’s just how it goes sometimes, we just couldn’t get those conversions like we normally have.”

MARVIN AUSTIN

On adjustments made for Maryland’s running game in the second half:
“Just playing more technique, fitting our blocks a lot better and guys running to the football.”

Did fatigue factor into Maryland’s final drive?
“It wore us a little bit, but we should have got off the field on third down.”

On the most frustrating thing about the loss:
“I feel like we should have played better on defense. That’s the disappointing thing, because I know we can play a lot better on defense than we did.”

MARK PASCHAL
Listen to Audio (2:13)

On Maryland’s final possession:
“We played well the whole second half. We just couldn’t quite get them off the field on that last drive. It seems like, I don’t why, last drives are something that we haven’t been great at this year. We held them to a field goal, which was somewhat of a positive, but we just couldn’t turn it around the other way.”

On being on the field for 40 minutes on defense:
“It felt like we were out there all day. I don’t think fatigue was that big of a factor. By this time of the year it starts getting cool and we’re getting more and more conditioned. We just have to make more stops on defense and put our offense in a better position to score.”
