Saturday was a tough day for Hakeem Nicks for catching passes at North Carolina, but he never worried how the afternoon would turn out. He was confident that UNC would hold off Georgia Tech, and he never lost faith that he would become one of the school's most prolific receivers in the process. Late in the fourth quarter of a 28-7 win, Nicks caught a 28-yard pass from quarterback T.J. Yates to become UNC's career leader in pass reception yards in his junior season. "I didn't know how late in the game after the first half that I was going to get it," Nicks said. "I knew the coaches would make sure that I got the record. It was a matter of me blocking in the run game and being patient."

UNC's 28-7 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday means Carolina, Miami and the Hokies are the only teams in their division with two league losses. Virginia Tech holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over UNC, but UNC holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Hurricanes.

Dwight Jones said that he has had family and friends at every North Carolina home football game this season. He swore none of them ever gave him grief for not getting in the game. In Saturday's 28-7 victory against Georgia Tech, the former standout receiver at Cummings High School gave his cheering section something to make noise about, taking the field for a series late in the fourth quarter. "It was just a blessing to get in," Jones said.

There were some interesting subplots to North Carolina's 28-7 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday. Quarterback T.J. Yates returned late in the game and made his first throws since breaking a bone in his left ankle some six weeks ago. Touted freshman wide receiver Dwight Jones saw his first action of the season, burning what could've been a redshirt year. And Shaun Draughn and Ryan Houston ran for 90 and 74 yards, respectively, helping UNC gain a season-high 186 on the ground.
