Hansbrough did not practice today, but had an MRI that revealed the stress
reaction.
There is no timetable for his return and no further information is available
at this time. Coach Williams will not have a statement until Friday after he
meets with the UNC medical staff and Hansbrough.
"I think he'll get well pretty quick," Hansbrough's father, Gene, an orthopedic surgeon, told the News & Observer. "...These things happen, and he'll be all right."
"His leg's been bothering him for a couple of weeks ... it got worse," Hansbrough's father told ESPN. "It doesn't hurt when he walks on it. ... It's a stress reaction and he needs to rest a bit. He just needs time to let it heal. ... He understands the big picture. He knows he has to get well and be 100 percent to help the team."
Hansbrough averaged 22.6 points and 10.2 rebounds last year and was the
National Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year, ACC Male Athlete of the
Year, ACC Tournament MVP and NCAA East Regional MVP.
The Poplar Bluff, Mo., native has played in all 108 games in his first three
years as a Tar Heel.
