Carolina Football

E.J. Wilson absorbs bone-jarring hits every Saturday for North Carolina, but that's nothing new for him. Wilson, a junior defensive end, had a series of accidents and injuries growing up in Emporia, Va., that gave him a preview of the sometimes violent nature of football. When he looks back, he wonders how he lasted long enough to make it to North Carolina.

At the time, it seemed like North Carolina hardly could have endured a worse loss than the one the Tar Heels suffered to Virginia Tech earlier this season.

Injury to one means opportunity for another. Robert Francois has been a major contributor to the Boston College football team's defense since his redshirt freshman year in 2005, but he's almost always come off the bench. He did start seven games as a sophomore when Brian Toal had a bad shoulder, and now, again because of an injury to Toal, he's a starter. Francois will take Toal's place at weakside linebacker on Saturday when BC plays at North Carolina.

With the loss of fellow linebacker Brian Toal to a broken leg, Francois’ role is about to get even more important. He’ll start at weakside linebacker when the Eagles travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., Saturday to take on the Tar Heels.
