Batter of the Week: Tim Fedroff was a one-man wrecking crew against Miami, driving in seven runs while hitting his No. 10 and 11 home runs for the season. He batted .353 for the week and scored three runs. He also garnered the final ACC Player of the Week honor for his performance.
Pitcher of the Week: With the offensive onslaught by both teams in Coral Gables, the importance of the solid performance by Adam Warren in the game on Saturday evening cannot be understated. He pitched five shutout innings against Miami while striking out seven batters. However, he did lose his shutout in the sixth inning, giving up a grand slam to Miami third baseman Mark Sobolewski after losing his bid for a no hitter earlier that inning. Interesting Notes: The Tar Heels did not lose a series this season and dealt Miami its first series loss of the season. UNC tied its regular season all-time record with a 45-10 (22-7 ACC) record. The Heels also broke their season strikeout record with 557 in 54 games. Double Duty: Junior Catcher Tim Federowicz returned to the mound against Miami to earn a save in the Saturday afternoon rubber match after starting the game as the designated hitter. He also caught the three other games this week. All-ACC Honors: Six Tar Heels were honored for their performances this season. Alex White received the ACC Pitcher of the Year award to go with being on the All-ACC First Team along with teammate Tim Fedroff. Dustin Ackley, Tim Federowicz, Kyle Seager and Rob Wooten were all honored on the All-ACC Second Team.
Looking Ahead: The Tar Heels head to the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville, Fla. for the ACC Tournament. The ACC has two round robin pools and the winner of each pool plays in the title game. The third-seeded Tar Heels are in the "B" bracket along with No.6 Virginia, No. 2 Florida State and No. 7 Wake Forest. All of the ACC games will be televised regionally on Fox Sports Net South and Sports South. The tournament will also be shown on FSN Florida, SUN Sports, Comcast Sports Mid-Atlantic and the New England Sports Network (NESN). The ACC Tournament will be broadcast nationally by the ISP Radio Network on XM Radio and the ISP National Affiliates. |
