Posted Mar 16, 2008

The Tar Heels are the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. They'll be the No. 1 seed in the East Region and will begin NCAA Tournament play vs. Mount St. Mary's or Coppin St. on Friday at 7:10 p.m. in Raleigh.

"It was a great weekend for us at the ACC Tournament; a great way to to go into the NCAA Tournament," Roy Williams said Sunday evening after the Tournament field was announced. "Our players were rewarded for their success with a number one seed. Our plan now is to get some rest over the next few days, hopefully recuperate from a tough three-day tournament and get over some nagging injuries. I know we will all be excited to start NCAA Tournament play at the end of the week."

In the second round, UNC would face the winner of Indiana vs. Arkansas.

The top seeds in the East Region ...

1. North Carolina
2. Tennessee
3. Louisville
4. Washington State
5. Notre Dame
6. Oklahoma
7. Butler
8. Indiana

"Every coach feels they have an extremely difficult path to reach their dreams of winning the championship and we are certainly no exception," Williams said. "We have a very challenging road ahead of us."
