Freeman Departs Without Offer

Corey Freeman exited his North Carolina official visit this past weekend without a scholarship offer in hand.

"They said they would get back at me [about a scholarship]," Freeman said. "I liked it and everything, but they didn't offer me, so I have to keep my options open. I'm going to check out West Virginia and Cincinnati and see how I like those schools."

Freeman, a 6-foot-2 defensive end from Cleveland Heights (Ohio), told Inside Carolina prior to this weekend that he would verbally commit on the visit if UNC offered.

"That's the school I wanted to go to, but they haven't put up an offer so I'm going to have to keep doing what I'm doing and look at other schools," Freeman said.

Although he doesn't have anything scheduled, Freeman plans to take official visits to Cincinnati and West Virginia the next two weekends. Both have extended scholarship offers.

Freeman is looking to make an commitment within the next couple of weeks.

"I'm going to go ahead and pick my school," Freeman said. "I don't want to waste any more time and keep waiting."

During his stay, Freeman was hosted by Richard Quinn and Charlie Brown, both of whom hail from his area of Ohio.

"I had met both of them previously, but I had never hung out with them," Freeman said. "They were good hosts. They are from my area so they pretty much know how it is. They like it, so I figured that I'd like it, too."

Quinn and Brown showed Freeman around campus for much of Friday and Saturday. In-between, the trio made their way to the Smith Center, where they watched UNC's basketball team rout rival NC State.

"It was great," Freeman said of the game. "I like their fan support."

Freeman then closed his visit with the customary meeting with Butch Davis.

"He just talked about the school and asked me if there were any questions that I had," Freeman said. "He talked about how they're building on the program and how they're building onto the stadium."
