Womble chose UNC over finalists Arizona State and South Carolina. He also considered offers from Boston College, Wisconson, Louisville and Nebraska.
"North Carolina is rebuilding and is going to be good real soon," Womble said.
Despite playing on a 3-7 team, Womble finished his senior season with 1,787 yards and 20 touchdowns on 170 carries – setting his high school’s career and season rushing records. He also scored on a kick return and reception.
"My grandma wanted to see me play football and that was big for me," he said. "She lives an hour away [from UNC] - so now she'll be able to see me play."
