"Coach Davis has informed Strong and Barbour that he has recommended to University officials that their scholarships not be renewed for the 2008-09 academic year," Kevin Best, UNC's Director of Football Communications, told Inside Carolina.
Strong, a sophomore, began the 2007 season as a backup cornerback, but took over the starting spot after Kendric Williams suffered a career-ending injury against Virginia Tech. Strong recorded nine tackles and one pass break-up through the first seven games of the season.
Barbour, a sophomore offensive lineman, saw limited action at left tackle.
"It's disappointing to have to take this action," Butch Davis said on Oct. 22 of the suspension. "Both players
had a tremendous opportunity to help this football team."
