Ed Davis has decided to end his recruitment. According to multiple sources, including his father, the 6-8, 215-pound rising senior power forward from Richmond (Va.) Benedictine will be a Tar Heel.

"It’s a dream come true - probably more for me than him,” said Davis’ father, Terry, who played in the NBA. “We dreamed for him to get this type of attention and for people like North Carolina to recruit him."

"I think I’m more excited than he is,” he added.

Davis becomes UNC's second commitment in the 2008 class, joining California point guard Larry Drew Jr., who is also the son of a former NBA player.

"We’ve been talking and he really likes Larry Drew’s son and the way he plays,” the elder Davis said. “He’s someone who he really wanted to play with.”

Davis chose UNC over finalists Virginia and UConn. He also previously considered offers from Georgetown, Louisville, Michigan State and others.

Davis is ranked the No. 2 power forward in the nation by Dave Telep at Scout.com and the No. 2 prospect overall.

"He’s got instincts and awareness in the paint where he can hit you with counter moves, post moves, step away for a mid-range shot or face and go off the dribble," Telep writes in his Scouting Report. "He’s always playing with a level of aggression and playing in attack mode."

Davis emerged as a star at Benedictine last season, averaging 18 points and 13 rebounds, while leading the school to a 29-3 record and the Virginia Independent Schools championship.

"We won a state championship and won every tournment we entered," Benedictine head basketball coach Sean McAloon said. "[Davis] played a major part, because of how talented he is. ... Obviously, a lot of things ran through Ed.

"He was valuable because of offense and defense. Not many people drove the lane on us, because he patrolled it. And offensively, he scored, rebounded -- he did everything we needed."
