UNC Tracking Ga. Wide Receiver

UNC Tracking Ga. Wide Receiver

Since the Evaluation Period, North Carolina has been following Corey Heard, a 6-foot-2 185-pound wide receiver from Atlanta (Ga.) Mays.

"I've been talking to [Tommy Thigpen]," said Heard. "He's been talking about getting up for a visit and having me meet the head coach."

Heard, who has only made visits to local schools Georgia and Georgia Tech, hopes to visit Chapel Hill, but doesn't have any plans set.

Thigpen discovered Heard when stopping by Mays High School to pick up film. He later returned to observe practice.

UNC has not offered Heard a scholarship, but he has received an offer from Kentucky and strong interest from Georgia, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Stanford.

While Heard claims he's "very interested" in UNC, the Tar Heels are currently on the outside looking in.

"My favorites are Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Florida, NC State, and Stanford," said Heard. "They all have my major and they all throw the ball a lot."

Heard is looking to major in architecture.

Playing in a run-oriented offense, Heard makes the most of his opportunities. As a junior, he caught 15 passes and scored touchdowns on 12 of them.

In mid-June, Heard shocked many when he clocked a 4.29-second 40-yard dash at a combine held at Georgia. He runs track for Mays participating in the 110-meter high hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, and 1600-meter relay.
