"I think I fit in great [with Golden State] - I can play the uptempo style," Wright said. "I'm excited about this situation.
"I'm going to be ready ... trust me."
Wright averaged 14.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in his one season at North Carolina. He shot 64.6 percent from the field, finishing atop the ACC in that statistic and setting the league's freshman record for field goal percetage. His conference honors included Second Team All-ACC, ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP.
Golden State's top executive Chris Mullin said, "I can see [Wright] and Andris (Biedrins) taking care of that basket for us and outrunning forwards. It addressed an immediate need, but also his long-term future I think is just tremendous."
Listed at 6-10, 210 pounds, Wright's scouting report at ESPN reads "Super long, athletic big man who spends most of his time around the basket. Runs the floor very well and knows how to get to the rim. Very quick and explosive. Can be a smothering defender." The negatives section notes "Strength is a major issue ... will float at times."
He is the 15th Tar Heel basketball player to leave early for the draft.
