Howard, a 6-foot-1 170-pound cornerback from Miami (Fla.) Krop, is targeting the weekend of July 21st for his visit.
"[Etienne] Sabino, my teammate, he went up there and he told me how everything is – how the campus is and how everything works – and that it's a good place to be and they've got good facilities," said Howard. "So I just looked into it and want to see how everything was for myself."
Sabino will accompany Howard on the visit. UNC is conducting its team camp that weekend, but neither Howard nor Sabino will participate.
In late spring, Central Michigan became the first school to give Howard a scholarship offer. UNC followed quickly thereafter with an offer of its own.
"[Pagano and Blake] were at [spring] practice one day and we were doing one-on-one drills and I just dominated the receivers," said Howard. "Then we did seven-on-seven. I had about six big hits and an interception. Right after that [day], they offered."
UNC's offer begin an avalanche of 25-plus scholarship offers including the likes of Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
After visiting UNC, Howard hopes to squeeze in trips to Florida and Florida State by the end of the summer. Thus far, he has visited Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee.
With plenty of important visits left on the docket, Howard isn't prepared to name any favorites.
"I don't have a top five or anything," said Howard. "I'm just limiting all the schools down by the visits I take, and I'm still in the process of doing that. I don't have a top five or anything, right now."
By the end of the summer, Howard plans on naming that top five.
"Mainly, I'm looking for academics and an opportunity to play early," said Howard. "And [I'm looking for] a school that's like on a winning streak and has a good coaching staff."
Howard isn't sure if his recruitment will be impacted by Sabino's collegiate decision.
"Not really, well, I don't know," said Howard. "We're taking the same visits, so it may happen like that, but I don't know. I can't tell you right now."
Since discovering Howard, Blake and Pagano have established a constant flow of communication.
"I talk to them pretty often," said Howard. "They text message [me] here and there to see how I'm doing and see how my family is doing. It's on a daily basis or every other day.
"I'd say I talk to Coach Pagano more, because he's the defensive back coach."
As a junior, Howard had a solid football season collecting 55 tackles, two interceptions, 12 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles.
