Opening remarks –

First of all, congratulations to Dan [McDonnell] and Louisville for a terrific season. And congratulations to our team on 55 wins, which is the most in the history of our program. We were happy to get that one and survive. We had to play a lot differently today, obviously with the wind. Pitching and defense is the name of the game and we got all those today. We’re happy to be able to play tomorrow.

On pitching staff having three games in three days -

That’s important. We didn’t have to use Robert and Adam. I’m happy that Robert is going to get another chance to pitch tomorrow.

On the rematch with Rice -

We hope it is a different game than it was the first time. We have to be better offensively than we were today. We’re happy to be playing tomorrow. We’ll have to play well.

More on today’s game -

This game is crazy. You can go from scoring a lot of runs to none. It is all controlled by the guy on the mound. Good pitching beats good hitting any day of the week. Today was a good example of that.

CARIGNAN

On his performance today -

I take a lot of pride in inheriting runners. There were two runners on, and I wanted to come in and clean it up.

PUTKNONEN

On his performance -

I was trying to throw hard and hit my spots. All around I was more confident throwing strikes.
