CLEVELAND, Ohio --- North Carolina seniors Ivory Latta and Camille Little became the 11th and 12th players in school history to be selected in the WNBA Draft Wednesday afternoon at the Renaissance Hotel. Latta was chosen 11th overall by the Detroit Shock and Little was the picked 17th by the San Antonio Silver Stars.
"I said all along that we would keep our pick if we felt like we could draft a player who had the chance to make an impact in the WNBA down the road, and we got even more than that in Ivory Latta," said Shock coach Bill Laimbeer. "She was at the top of most teams' draft boards at the start of the collegiate season because she can shoot the 3, penetrate and distribute the basketball, and she will bring all of those skills to the WNBA."
Latta finished her time at Carolina as the school's all-time leader in career points, three-pointers, three-point percentage and free-throw percentage. She tallied 2,285 career points, 85 more than any other Tar Heel in program history. Detroit is the defending WNBA champion, having defeated Sacramento in last year's finals.
"Camille to us was a first-round pick in every way possible, and for us to realize her at 17 is really a gift," San Antonio coach/general manager Dan Hughes said. "Her defensive play, her intelligent approach to the game and her offensive versatility just really make her a welcome addition."
Little was a four-time All-ACC performer at Carolina who finished her career with over 1,700 career points, 800 career rebounds, 250 career assists and 250 career steals.
