Four-Star WR Chooses Tar Heels

Rashad Mason has verbally committed to North Carolina. The 6-foot-5 225-pound wide receiver from Nashville (Tenn.) Pearl-Cohn is ranked a four-star prospect and the No. 14 wideout in the nation by Scout.com.

"I committed to North Carolina," Mason said.

When it came down to comparing coaching staffs, Mason felt most comfortable with the Tar Heel coaches.

"They made me feel like I was at home," he said. "With other coaching staffs I was uptight, but I was loose and joking around with the UNC coaches."

Mason added that he also wanted a chance to continue to play with some of his Nashville (Tenn.) Pearl-Cohn teammates – Brian Gupton and Jeremy Gordon. According to Mason, Gupton has also verbally committed to the Tar Heels, while Gordon will attend a junior college first and then head to UNC.

Mason picked UNC over offers from Michigan, Tennessee, Clemson, Mississippi and Kentucky.

During his senior season at Nashville (Tenn.) Pearl-Cohn HS, Mason started on both offense and defense, helping lead Pearl-Cohn to a 10-4 record and the semi-finals of 3A State Playoffs. On the season, Mason caught 26 passes for 610 yards and 13 touchdowns. For the first time, Mason held down the starting free safety position racking in 110 tackles and six interceptions.
