Opening remarks -

We feel very good about a road win in the ACC, like you always should. The first 10-12 minutes in the second half we were pretty good offensively, and we had been struggling a little bit offensively recently. Wayne and Ty made some shots. Ty played only nine minutes in the first half because of foul trouble - we kept him out hoping he wouldn't pick up his third. Wayne, who I think is a fantastic shooter, struggled a bit recently. ... He just went through a stretch where it didn't go in. Ty and Wayne were really big for us, Danny was big coming off the bench. Look down there and have five guys in double figures, I like that.

We didn’t do a very good job on the backboards in the first half, I thought we were much more active on the back boards in the second half. We got lucky that they missed a bunch of shots that they would normally make. The only discouraging thing is the 17 assists and 19 turnovers. Part of the game plan - to show you how good of a coach I am - we were going to cut down on turnovers and force them to have more. .... Again, we feel good about having five guys in double figures and winning a game in the ACC on the road.

Was Ty Lawson was frustrated at halftime with the foul trouble?

I did not sense that frustration level. He’s pretty poker faced about most things. I did tell him that he should be well rested and we needed a good half out of him. I've been talking to him a little more recently about ignoring his shot because he can shoot the basketball. Sometimes he looks past that, and it's great to have a point guard that looks pass first, but don't ignore your open shots. I did tell him that we needed a big half out of him. If that's what it'll take, I'll tell him that every game from now on.

On the impact of Ishmael Smith’s foul trouble -

I thought it was big. He penetrates so well and puts so much pressure on you, it’s hard to simulate in practice. One of the two keys for us defensively was to slow him down and we didn’t do a very good job of that tonight. ... I do think it was a huge factor in the game. We were very fortunate.

On being outrebounded in the first half -

I think Wake was more determined than we were. And then the other thing is long shots, long rebounds, and they kept getting the loose balls on the long rebounds. That's one thing about the three-point shot, the defense is on the inside, but when the ball bounces out longer it favors the offensive team. ... I think Wake was very determined. I told our kids at one of the timeouts in the first half that they were playing harder than we were and I really believed it at that point.

On the state of the team -

I really thought we'd be better at the halfcourt offense than we are right now. We emphasize the running game and I think the kids rely on that so much. We've been trying to work on it more and we'll work on it more. ... If we run the right way we don't have to score in the half court. Defensively, we're coming along. We still don't have that determination that 'You can't get a shot. I'm guarding you and you cannot shoot the ball against me.' If we can develop that kind of attitude I think we'll be better.
