McGill, Taylor Named MVPs At 2006 Banquet

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ----- University of North Carolina tailback Ronnie McGill and safety Kareen Taylor were named the Tar Heels' Most Valuable Players at the 2006 football banquet on Sunday evening.

McGill started all 12 games and led the team with 790 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 15 receptions for 148 yards and one touchdown. A native of Clover, S.C., McGill had three 100-yard rushing games this season, including 101 in a 23-9 win over NC State. He finished his Carolina career ranked 10th all-time in rushing yards (2,393) and eighth in rushing touchdowns (24).

Taylor played in all 12 games and started 11. He led the team with five interceptions and finished second with 70 tackles. Taylor recorded two interceptions in each of the two final games of the season against NC State and Duke.

Safety D.J. Walker, who started 11 games and had 65 tackles, was named the best all-around senior.

Quarterback Joe Dailey earned the William Rand Kenan, Jr. award for outstanding athletics, academics and leadership. Dailey completed 112 of 195 pass attempts for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns.
