Sturdivant on the Mend

In the second quarter of Oakboro (N.C.) West Stanly's game Friday against Monroe (N.C.) Sun Valley, "Mr. Everything" Quan Sturdivant went down with a pulled hamstring, which ultimately allowed the Spartans to walk away with a 25-7 victory.

"I was on defense, I was just trying to catch a guy before he scored and I tweaked my hamstring a little bit," said Sturdivant. "[I'll be out] for about a week."

Sturdivant, a 6-foot-3 220-pound jumbo athlete, stars at quarterback for West Stanly, but is also an important part of the Colts' defense. Once healed, he expects to continue to see the same amount of reps on defense.

With Sturdivant on the sideline, West Stanly failed to put any additional points on the board resulting in their first loss of the season.

On the recruiting front, Sturdivant is still waiting to officially visit both North Carolina and Florida before making a verbal commitment.

"I'm supposed to go to Florida sometime soon," said Sturdivant. "I haven't set anything up yet, I'm about to do that soon."

Sturdivant will, however, unofficially visit Chapel Hill this Saturday for the Tar Heels' season opener. Accompanied by his mother, Sturdivant plans to absorb the game time atmosphere of Kenan Stadium and is considering spending time with the team afterwards.
