“He’s going to be at orientation June 19 for summer school,” Roanoke Rapids coach Tim Bennett told Inside Carolina on Monday. “Coach [John] Bunting called me about a month ago and said he was excited when he got the SAT score. Everything Coach Bunting said was that they were planning on getting Darius 15-20 snaps per game.
“Darius said he is up to 280 pounds,” said Bennett. “And, I think he’s grown an inch. He’s closer to 6-5, than 6-4.
“He worked out last week with his Carolina workout book, and he’s been working out and playing basketball in the gym, so I think he’s in pretty good shape. I know he can’t wait to get to UNC and start working with Coach [Jeff] Connors and his strength program.”
The following is an excerpt found in Sunday’s Roanoke Rapids Herald:
“Second lieutenant Darius L. Massenburg completed his studies at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., and respectively earned a spot on the Dean’s List with a GPA of 3.3.
“He also won the Mary B. Talent writing award for best poetry – ‘All About Me,’ having it published in the magazine Sound Off.
“…He will attend the University of North Carolina and will play football for the Tar Heels.”
