CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina's first two football games of the 2006 season against Rutgers and Virginia Tech will be televised by ABC and ESPN, respectively. The Tar Heels open the season against the Scarlet Knights on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 3:30 p.m. in a regionally televised broadcast on ABC. The following week, Carolina plays host to Virginia Tech on ESPN at 12 noon.

Three of Carolina's games have already been slated for national television. In addition to the game against Virginia Tech, the Tar Heels face Virginia on Thursday, Oct. 19 on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. and play at Notre Dame on Saturday, Nov. 4 on NBC at 2:30 p.m.

North Carolina's 2006 campaign begins with three consecutive home games for the first time since 1981. The Tar Heels face Rutgers (Sept. 2), Virginia Tech (Sept. 9) and Furman (Sept.) before heading to Clemson on Sept. 23. Rutgers, who lost to Arizona State in the Insight Bowl last season, will be making its first trip to Chapel Hill.
