VIRGINIA COACH DAVE LEITAO

Opening remarks
I thought that both teams from an energy standpoint battled each other pretty hard. I had a notion or thought that we would have a sharper edge because we had played yesterday and they had been off for the past few days. Maybe that's why we got off to a good start, but they kept coming after us and coming after us.

Tonight they had a ton of options to come at us with, while we put a lot of pressure on Sean (Singletary) and J.R. (Reynolds). We didn't have guys behind them making plays when we needed. We have two very good guards that night in and night out put their hearts in it, but we need everybody to be on board. We can't just rely on our two primary players to make every single play.

Carolina has become a really, really good team that understands who they are. That's a credit to Coach (Roy) Williams and the job he has done.

On the match-up with North Carolina's Reyshawn Terry
LEITAO: Because of foul trouble, we went small. If you look at the statistics the past few games, he has been the one guy that has really raised his level of play for them. He is built like a power forward but he has the touch of a perimeter player. He's a difficult match-up not only for us but for a lot of people.

On how his young team competed
LEITAO: After the 80 minutes of basketball we had on this stage, we can walk away knowing that we competed hard enough (to be successful) while also learning lessons that will hopefully help us when we are at this point again.

VIRGINIA SOPHOMORE SEAN SINGLETARY

On taking any consolation in playing a game like this
SINGLETARY: It really doesn't matter what type of game that we had. We lost. Our season is over.

On whether there was still pain in his hip and if fatigue was a factor in the game
SINGLETARY: It wasn't a factor. I still have a little pain, but it's all part of the game so I'm just trying to play through it.

On what Carolina did to get the win
SINGLETARY: They made more shots than us. We got open looks on the offensive end. We just weren't able to knock down everything, knock down some of the easy shots. They got a lot of transition points and a lot of put-backs.
