David Noel is doing something this season that has not been asked of him before during his career in the North Carolina basketball program. And he is succeeding beyond almost all expectations.
Changing Role: Noel, senior for North Carolina, has become a leader for inexperienced team
With exams finished and the first semester completed, the Tar Heels headed to Southern California with one less worry on their minds. No. 17 UNC plays at USC today at 10:30 p.m. (Fox Sports South) in its lone scheduled trip to the West Coast this season.
Heels focus on hoops, holidays
After taking a geography exam Saturday afternoon, then being tested by the Broncos that night, Frasor sounded ready for a break from school, and even from Chapel Hill. So did Hansbrough, who had never been to California before the team flew to Los Angeles on Sunday night.

"I don't know what we have planned, but I'm going to try and get out in the sun a little bit," Hansbrough said. "I can't tell you how much I've been looking forward to this. We get a stretch right now where we can just play and focus solely on basketball."
UNC happy to be on West Coast
"Taking nothing away from the national championship team, but it's a different feeling when you have guys on your team that are going to sacrifice everything every day," Noel said. "You have guys on this team that every day do something different. Guys are going to dive on the floor every day."
