CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina head coach John Bunting touched on a number of topics during his live call-in show on Thursday evening. Here are some excerpts of what he said ...

“We had a number of injuries this week – mostly to the scout guys. Larry Edwards is wearing a lot of fullbacks out on the practice field, I’ll tell you that. He just gets after them. Kenny Price went down, he’s redshirting this year and will be scoped on Monday. And we’ll have another scout player scoped. We had a rough week, we really did. … It was a lengthy injury report on Wednesday, it was hard to put a group together on Wednesday, but we got through that and had a number of players switch around and it turned out to be one of our better practices. …

“That [Miami] game was a difficult loss, because we were that close to getting a breakthrough game. … I think they learned a lot about what it’s like to play at that high level. I think our preparation has been really good [for this weekend]. Baker has practiced every day, which is something he hadn’t done in the previous two weeks, so based on that I’m hopeful he’ll play better. And I’m hopeful our receivers will play better. They played better this week in practice. We know Jesse Holley is catching the ball and making plays and our tight ends are catching the ball, but we’ve got to get the other guys to contribute. I feel real good about the defense recovering from a real physical battle against Miami. Tyrone Moss might be the best back in the ACC right now. …

“The offensive line we’ll be facing this week is bigger, maybe even more powerful than Miami, and they run the same “Power O” play that Miami got after us with in the second half. We’ve got to be at our best to have a chance to win, but I told the team, ‘You get to play the big boys again this week.’ What an opportunity we have. They’re ranked No. 19 in the country, we’ve already beaten a ranked team, and now it’s time for another one. …

“We are a faster defense … but we have to stand up to these guys. They average 6-6, 314 pounds [on the offensive line] – every one of them is back from last year. They are, from what I understand, a little mad after the Virginia Tech game. … They are a power running team and in order to stop it or slow it down … everybody has to fit right so we can free up one guy to make that tackle. …

“Seven true freshmen have played, the lowest total since I’ve been here. … Guys like Bryan Dixon, Andre Coleman, Jermaine Strong, E.J. Wilson, Kyle Jolly, Kenton Thornton – these are going to be really good players. They are redshirting now because we have enough at their position and we’re finally able to redshirt some players. … Fortunately we’re able to redshirt Cameron Sexton and he’ll be better for it. …

“Del Roberts, right now, we plan on redshirting. Brooks Foster, I want in the game this week – he’s got a lot of ability, is a redshirt freshman, has played a few snaps on special teams, our intention is to play him more this game. I want to see more of Wallace Wright, too, and Derrele Mitchell’s got to play also. … Brandon Tate is going to be a good [wide receiver] – he’s returning the kicks right now. If he is a little more familiar with the offense, I think we’d put him in there more frequently. Coach Tranquil thinks he’s even faster than we thought he was going to be and his ball skills are good, so this guy is going to be playing a lot of football. Depending on how things go, I may start to play him. But you can only put so many guys out there at one time. I want to go with the guys that have gotten us to this point, I want Matt to throw it to them and I want them to catch it. I want the guys who have played for us and made big plays for us to make big plays again.”
