IC Radio Show Debuts Thursday!

Posted Sep 7, 2005

Inside Carolina, the leading independent voice of UNC sports in print and online, is now hitting the air waves. The Inside Carolina Radio show - live at Buffalo Wild Wings on Franklin Street - debuts Thursday from 11am-1pm on 1490 WDUR-AM in the Chapel Hill area and can be heard anywhere online at trianglesportstalk.com.

"The Inside Carolina Magazine and InsideCarolina.com have clearly separated themselves from anyone else covering the Tar Heels," said Triangle Sports Talk program director Taylor Zarzour. "Naturally we thought it'd be a good fit for them to also have a radio show, which will serve listeners with the same thing - in-depth news and analysis you can't find anywhere else. We're very exicited about the association."

The show will be hosted by two experienced sports talk radio personalities - Jarrett Whaley and Andrew Jones - and each broadcast will include a breakdown of the state of the team, reports from IC's Andy Britt, an insider's look at the next opponent, interviews with former Tar Heels, calls from listeners (studio line is 329-5483) and much more.

"It's very exciting to partner with Inside Carolina, and bring Tar Heel fans great information and opinion about this year's team," said Whaley, known in the Triangle as 'JDawg.' "Inside Carolina gives it to you straight, and that's the way we plan to do the radio show. This is a great way to connect us directly with North Carolina fans, and I'm thrilled to be a part of the show."

Whaley has been in the radio field for more than a decade, but has become a well-known personality in the Triangle over the last five years.

Jones, meanwhile, is a familiar name to IC readers - as he's a former senior writer for the Inside Carolina site and magazine. Now the area beat writer for the Wilmington Star-News, Jones is the former host of an evening program on ESPN Radio in Wilmington that achieved record ratings.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to interact with not just Carolina fans, but ACC fans, too," said Jones, who also will host an evening program on Mondays that will cover the entire conference. "It's been almost three years since I left my show in Wilmington and it'll be great to broadcast the Inside Carolina Radio Show in the heart of Tar Heel country."

UNC fans are invited to attend the live event each Thursday at Buffalo Wild Wings, located at 206 W. Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.

Show replays will be available at insidecarolina.com and trianglesportstalk.com.
