Heels Offer Top Pa. DT

Just like any other top ten recruit from the Keystone State, Tom McEowen watches as the scholarship offers continue to pile up. This week McEowen added another handful to the stack including an offer from North Carolina.

"North Carolina came in today, and I have Georgia, Florida, Virginia, and Minnesota," said McEowen on Wednesday evening. "Those are the new ones. I think I have over 20 [offers]."

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive tackle from Langhorne (N.C.) Neshaminy likes what North Carolina has to offer, but admits he lacks knowledge of UNC's academic and football programs at this point.

"I think they're a good school," said McEowen. "I'm happy that they've offered me so that I can start looking at them. I really don't know that much about them, but I'd like to know more."

Sometime in the next two weeks McEowen, his coach, and father will sit down and map out a recruiting road trip that will extend to Florida. McEowen believes a stop in Chapel Hill is on tap.

Although still early, McEowen has narrowed his offers down to a more manageable list of favorite schools. Surprisingly, the Tar Heels made the cut.

"As of right now I can probably name six or seven schools that I'm probably going to go to," said McEowen. "I'd probably say Penn State, Georgia, Florida, Boston College, Virginia, and North Carolina. It's just my comfort level with those schools, as I've been talking to them or what I've heard about the school."

McEowen hopes to have a decision made by early September.

In 2004, McEowen earned first team all-league honors at defensive tackle after recording 89 tackles including 15 for a loss and five sacks, while also forcing two fumbles. He also was named to the second team all-league at offensive line.
