North Carolina (18-6,7-4) at NC State (11-11, 5-6)
Coach Sylvia Hatchell and the Tar Heel women will make the voyage to Raleigh Sunday afternoon and take on the struggling NC State Wolfpack.
This is a crucial game for the Heels, as they must do something rarely done in Slyvia Hatchell's tenure at UNC, beat NC State in Raleigh. North Carolina enters Sunday's contest as one of the hottest teams in the league, having won four straight. NC State, however, has struggled recently, losing two straight to Virginia and Georgia Tech.
Offensively, the key to a Carolina Victory will simply be shooting and defensive rebounding. In their first meeting against NC State, which was a 66-63 NC State victory, the Heels shot a season-low 26 percent, and UNC star Nikki Teasley struggled going just 2-of-16 from the field. In order for Carolina to come away with a victory, they will need an improved performance from Teasley.
Defensively, UNC must try and stop the trio of Talisha Scates, Kaayla Chones and Amy Simpson who combined for 57 points and 34 rebounds in NCSU's victory at the Smith Center.
After Carolina's win Wenesday night against Villanova, Teasley was asked about Carolina's attitude going into NC State. "We won't be lethargic. They came into our house and beat us, so we have to go after them," she said.
NC State holds a strong 46-22 lead in the all-time series between the two Tobacco Road schools. The Wolfpack have dominated the series of late, winning seven of the last eight contests between the two schools. The lone UNC win came last year at Chapel Hill as the Tar Heels pulled out an 83-77 overtime victory.
