Here are some notes from UNC's 12th loss in 18 games overall and sixth in eight Atlantic Coast Conference contests.
*Duke has now won four straight at the Dean E. Smith Center. Last season the Blue Devils won 95-81 in Chapel Hill. In 2000, the Devils won 90-86 in overtime and in 1999 coach K's squad blew out the Heels 81-61. Carolina's last victory at home over Duke was in 1998 when the Tar Heels cruised 97-73.
*Duke has now beaten the Tar Heels three consecutive times. After UNC won at Cameron Indoor Stadium in last year's first meeting Duke easily handled the Heels in Chapel Hill and in the ACC Tournament championship game.
*UNC is now 122-88 against Duke. The Heels are 10-7 at the Dean Dome and 55-28 in all games played in Chapel Hill.
*UNC is now 27-23 against Mike Krzyzewski coached teams, not including UNC's two wins in the 1994-95 season when Krzyzewski missed the games.
*Either Carolina or Duke has been ranked in each of the last 110 meetings. The last time neither team was ranked when they played was on Feb. 27, 1960.
*Since not being ranked in any of their four matchups in the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons Duke's average ranking when facing the Tar Heels is No. 3.
*Either Carolina or Duke have reached the Final Four in 17 of the last 21 seasons but have been there at the same time just once (1991).
*Matt Doherty has used 10 different starting lineups in 18 games. The unit that has started the most games together is Melvin Scott, Jackie Manuel, Jason Capel, Will Johnson and Kris Lang. That group has started six games together. No Tar Heel has started every game.
*The 29-point loss was the worst ever for the Tar Heels at the Dean Dome. Wake Forest pummeled UNC by 22 points on Jan. 5 to set the previous record.
