On ACC point guards being the best in the country:
“You know I haven’t spent a lot of time studying the rest of the country, but I can’t imagine that anyone’s got anymore than Jarrett Jack, John Gilchrist, Chris Paul and Raymond Felton. Every team’s got a really, really high quality point guard. I do remember seeing in one of the magazines in the preseason that listed the Top 20 players at every position, and the point guard spot was like we had five of the top six or four of the top five, so I think it’s a fantastic year for point guards in our league.”

On Raymond Felton matching up against Wake Forest’s Chris Paul:
“I think those two are probably more similar than the others. I think that their speed and quickness with the ball, the way they attack after a rebound, after a turnover, after a made field goal are huge positives for both of our teams. Both of them are really good at keeping the basketball on the defensive end of the floor. Both of them are shooting over 50 percent from the three-point line. So what else can you want somebody to do?” I just think that they’re both truly, truly complete point guards, and then again they’re teams are winning.”

On Rashad McCants’ development this year:
“I think two things that we talked about in the off-season last spring for him to work on that he’s really done a great job of is being able to put the ball on the floor and take the ball to the basket, so he’s not strictly just a jump-shooter, and that he’s got to do a better job on the defensive end of the floor. And it’s got to be more of an emphasis for him. And I think he’s done both of those exceptionally well. Another part of his game that I think has really helped is his maturity level, being able to handle some negative things during the course of the game and not belabor and hang onto it.”

On having a more experienced team:
“I think the experience of being with our entire staff next year is very valuable. I think that that experience that they learn and the way they’re able to handle the instruction that we give, the excitement that we give them, the criticism that we give them, or whatever. I’ve always said the best thing in the world is to have experienced talent, the second choice is talent, the third choice is just experience. But if you have experienced talent, it is really good because they can handle adversity, and we’re going to have some.”

On the potential of Carolina and Wake both scoring over 100 points SaturdaY:
“We played one game last year where it was both over 100, but we played 55 minutes to get there, so I hope we don’t have to do that unless we’re going to be the lucky one at the end. I think that both teams will play really, really hard defensively, and most of the time when that happens, it’s difficult to have a free-flowing game where you score over 100, but both teams want to play at such a fast tempo, I wouldn’t be shocked, but this could be one of those ugly games too.”

On preparing for an easy game as opposed to this one:
“We’ve had a string of games in which all we had to do was not screw it up and we would win. Now, tomorrow, the team that plays the best is the team that’s going to win. I do think you prepare more to make sure your execution is good and your game slippage is not too big. Nothing can be casual. “Casual” better be left on the couch, or we’ll have no chance. I love these kinds of games. I’ll rest a heck of a lot better tonight than I will before some of those other games. We’ll show up to play. I think I’ve got a group of kids that want to play well and want to show up well on the big stage.”
