Green was a much heralded recruit out of Little Rock (Ark.) Pulaski Academy, ranked one of the top safeties in the country. He chose UNC over offers from Big 12 and Big Ten programs, thanks in part to Tar Heel connections with the Kansas City Chiefs. Green's older brother, Wesley, plays for the Chiefs and teammates Ryan Sims and Vonnie Holliday (former Heels), as well as head coach Dick Vermeil (a former Bunting colleague), helped guide Stephen to Chapel Hill. He did not play this season.
Fields [pictured right], a Wellington, Fla. native, had six receptions for 87 yards this season, including a 46-yard catch. After being redshirted in 2002, he suffered a broken foot in his second game in 2003 against NC State.
They are the second and third transfers this month, as head coach John Bunting confirmed two weeks ago that sophomore defensive end Alden Blizzard was leaving due to playing time concerns.
