North Carolina will get $1 million for expenses, national notoriety and even portable DVD players as gifts for earning a berth in the Dec. 30 Continental Tire Bowl. But the coaches say the Tar Heels are already benefiting from one of the most important perks -- extra workouts.

"We haven't peaked yet. You can see that," said May, the Tar Heels' center. "There's some slippage out there. When we get up 20 (points) sometimes teams are able to get it back down to 10 and seven. A good team will just put the hammer down when they're up 20 and they'll go up 40. We're not quite where we need to be, but we're getting there."

Rashad McCants (6-3, Jr., North Carolina) What he's done so far: (as of Dec. 4, team was 6-1): 20.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game; .530 FG percentage, including .535 on 3's. Why we put him here: His attitude can be dissected from now until the day he enters the NBA draft but it's tough to dispute, considering the quality of competition, that anyone has played better so far.
