CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior tailback Jacque Lewis underwent surgery on Monday to repair a broken foot he suffered on Saturday at Wake Forest, a UNC spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Lewis, the Tar Heels’ second-leading rusher this season with 569 yards and three touchdowns, is expected to require 8-12 weeks of recovery time.

Lewis fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot. His surgery was reported to be successful.

The Elizabeth City native rushed for 1,758 career yards and seven touchdowns at Carolina, as well as recording 506 receiving yards and four touchdowns
