OVERSEAS HEELS '04-05

* The new pro basketball season is well underway in Europe. Several former Tar Heels are involved and here's where they are located:

Ademola Okulaja is back in Spain (ACB), this time in Valencia (2-2). Vasco Evtimov, also in Spain's ACB, plays for Caja San Fernando Sevilla.

Dante Calabria is in Milan, Italy playing for Armani Jeans Milano (4-1).

Ed Cota and Shammond Williams both had season openers in Russia over the weekend. Cota is with Superleague A expansion team Dynamo Saint Petersburg (1-0). Williams plays for UNICS Kazan (1-0). They will meet on November 6.

Steve Bucknall is in France's second-division (Pro B) with Olympique Antibes. Makhtar Ndiaye was recently added to JDA Dijon of the Pro A league in France.

Horsens, Denmark is where you will find Jonathan Holmes in his second year of pro ball.

Kris Lang and Jason Capel will begin play later this month in Asia. Lang is in South Korea (KBL) with the SK Knights. After two seasons in Fayetteville (NBDL), Capel is in Tokyo, Japan (JBL Superleague) to play for the Aisin SeaHorses.

Randy Wiel and Walter Davis have teamed up as coach and assistant coach in The Netherlands for the Nijmegen EiffelTowers (0-1). The roster for Nijmegen includes Mike Mardesich of Maryland.

Henrik Rodl has started his coaching career in Germany. Rodl is the head coach of ALBA Berlin's junior team, TuS Lichterfelde Berlin, and is also an assistant coach of ALBA Berlin, his former team.

Overseas veterans Donald Williams and Derrick Phelps are still unattached.

GETH TO WOFFORD

* Ed Geth was recently added to the coaching staff of the women's basketball team at Wofford College (Spartanburg, S.C.). Geth was named as an assistant coach by head coach of the women's squad Edgar Farmer Jr., also a UNC graduate.

"Ed brings a wealth of knowledge to our staff. He will be a resource the post players can use," said Farmer after completing his first coaching staff.

Wofford went 0-28 last season and plays in the Southern Conference. North Carolina will host the Wofford Terriers in Chapel Hill on December 1.

BY THE NUMBERS

* The trade from Dallas to Washington has caused Antawn Jamison to part from his usual No. 33. With Brendan Haywood holding on to No. 33, Jamison decided No. 4 was the number for him.

Jamison explained his choice during a chat session recently on the Wizards' official website: "I was the fourth pick in the draft by Golden State. When I came here to Washington they had an '04 jersey for me. Then my daughter was four. All that coming together and I always admired Chris Webber who wears No. 4."
