Durant was selected Co-ACC Offensive Back of the Week along with Florida
State tailback Leon Washington. Durant, a 5-11, 217-pound senior from
Florence, S.C., completed 15 of 23 passes for 192 yards, zero interceptions
and three touchdowns in the win over No. 25 NC State. It was his
first three-touchdown game since the 2003 contest at NC State. Durant
connected on a 23-yard pass to Jesse Holley in the second quarter to give
Carolina a 13-3 lead. Trailing 16-13 in the fourth quarter, Durant tossed
two touchdown passes, including a 46-yard completion to Adarius Bowman and a
three-yard completion to tight end Jon Hamlett.
Edwards made his first start of the season and responded with eight tackles,
a fumble recovery and a 54-yard interception return in the Tar Heels win.
The Tampa, Fla., sophomore picked off a Jay Davis pass at the UNC 43-yard
line that was tipped at the line of scrimmage and ran 54 yards to the NC
State 3-yard line. North Carolina scored on the next play. Edwards also
recovered a fumble in the third quarter at the UNC 20-yard line.
Carolina (3-3, 2-2 ACC) travels to No. 11 Utah on Saturday.
