Former Tar Heel star Donald Williams ('95), 28, is no longer without a pro basketball affiliation. Since Sunday, Oct. 7, Williams has been part of the Harlem Globetrotters 15-day training camp in Prescott, Arizona, according to a recent announcement by team owner Mannie Jackson.

The 50 camp participants will be narrowed down to a final roster of 24 players for the Globetrotters' 2002 season, which will be their 76th.

After 12 players were released yesterday, Jackson noted four newcomers that stood out, including Williams. The other three mentioned: point guard Dwayne "Legend" Rogers, 7-0 Mongolian forward "Shark" Tserenjanhor and 6-5 sharp shooter Aundre Branch.

The Globetrotters will play a nine-game college tour during November that includes stops at Iowa (11/7, espn2), Minnesota (11/8), and St. John's at Madison Square Garden (11/10).

Williams, a 6-4 shooting guard, played the 2000-01 season in relative obscurity for the Richmond Rhythm of the now-defunct International Basketball League, appearing in 30 games and averaging 10.6 ppg.
